Bar Blondeau is located inside the Wythe Hotel, on the 6th floor. Kev and I began to frequent this location for brunch at the since-closed Reynard restaurant (now Le Crocodile) on the ground floor. We've also been to the rooftop bar, the Ides. Suffice to say, we are fond of the Wythe Hotel.
We visited Bar Blondeau on a Saturday afternoon in December, and found few crowds and a moderately priced (relative to other NYC hotel dining/bar menus) offering. The dining room has plush evergreen banquets, stone tables, and blonde wood walls, with deep gray tiling near the entrance. The selling point of the location is a view of the East River.
When we were there, the bar was full but there were few other tables, most of which were only drinking. We ordered a few dishes for a light, late lunch, and found beautiful, Basque inspired flavors using some of the season's best ingredients: leeks, figs, and squash.
Clockwise from top left: my orange wine, confit leeks on a miso paste with pine nuts and sesame seeds, Kev's martini, Iberico ham and cured tuna with macadamia nuts
Figs and squash with ricotta, balsamic, pumpkin seeds, espelette, basil, and preserved lemon
